Purchasing Manager

SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of Foundation Director of Dining Services, this position is accountable for the planning, scheduling, procurement and expediting of purchased supplies and equipment and related contractual agreements within the Dining Services function in accordance with established policies and procedures. 


  1. Represent the vision, Mission and Core Values of Foundation and franchises.

  2. Direct and coordinate activities engaged in buying and distributing materials, equipment, machinery, and supplies for Dining Services.

  1. Responsible      for the planning, scheduling, procurement and expediting of purchased      supplies and equipment in accordance with established procedures. 

  2. Improve and      maintain the competitive position of Dining Services through Continuous Improvement      in Purchasing with an emphasis on the elimination of waste and      non-value-added activities. Responds effectively and appropriately      on their own to improve outcomes, processes or measurements.

  3. Responsible      for the negotiation and management of purchasing contracts related to      Dining Services. 

  4. Reviews current industry purchasing trends and takes advantage of sound operational group purchasing efficiencies. Actively seeks new and innovative ways to deliver cost-effective services in operations. 

  5. Responsible for obtaining quotes from vendors, negotiating prices, and leveraging volume and term discounts.

  1. Responsible      for developing and/or maintaining a robust purchasing system supporting      Dining Services, with policies and procedures that provides strong      internal controls and provides appropriate protection to Foundation. 

  2. Collaborates with leadership in Dining Services operations to identify and recommend purchasing options, vendors and products to meet department needs.

  3. Produces reports relative to tracking purchasing performance including RFPs and bid awards. Distributes reports to appropriate parties in a timely manner.

  4. Ensures vendors are in compliance with related agreements at all times, and are in compliance with health and safety requirements where appropriate.

  5. Maintains working relationships with suppliers identified as  being committed to producing high quality work, safely and at competitive prices. 

  6. Enhances competitive advantage, being rigorous in challenging all aspects of the cost base by ensuring efficiency and cost effectiveness in delivery. 

  7. Follows through on assignments and commitments by meeting established or agreed upon deadlines. Accomplishes goals independently, with little supervision. 

  8. Uses time efficiently and responds quickly and constructively when confronted with challenges. Prioritizes tasks based on importance. Remains receptive to feedback.

  9. Provides timely status reports and progress updates to all concerned.

  10. Ensures a respectful work environment for staff by setting the example of positive, professional, timely, and open communications. 

  11. Work on special projects or programs as needed.


  1. Attends and participates in all meetings including      weekly staff meetings.

  2. Attends required trainings, conferences, workshops,      and educational functions applicable to the units as requested.

High School Diploma or GED; minimum two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 3 years supervisory and management experience required. ServSafe certificate or equivalent required.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
